Monika Lorincova

Monika Lorincova’s work revolves mainly around painting and photography. As a people oriented person, the main inspiration for her work comes from observing society. She uses her art as way of examining people and places in everyday settings. She paints with acrylics, sometimes including collages or pastels, with a focus on the figurative representation of the world she lives in. Through her paintings, she reflects on society and tries to record familiar stories. The major themes she focuses on include environment, social issues, and women at work. Her paintings often honour women and their place in society. The work developed from an urge to address the lack of historical recognition of women and their significant contributions.

About the work the artist said:

"This acrylic painting was inspired by a video I saw on social media of people in Gaza scrambling to get food after an air drop. In the video I saw people rushing to whatever packaging they could get, but there were also two young boys who clearly couldn't make it through the crowd, and so they resolved to sweeping up flower directly off the floor. To think we live in the same world as this, casually getting on with our lives whilst somewhere else children are forced to eat off the floor, I find incredibly saddening and frustrating, which is why I thought if art could bring attention to this, then perhaps in the future people will learn and be wiser, if not kinder.”
